Match Report 2: v Boroughmuir – Photo Highlights

As goalkeeper for the Gala Fairydean Rovers Ams team, Lewis McCulloch is known in Border Amateur Football League circles as a safe pair of hands. In Saturday’s match against Boroughmuir at Meggetland, Lewis put his handling skills to good use to dismiss the home side’s most dangerous batter, Gajander Singh (pictured). The city player skied a delivery from Greg Fenton behind the pavilion end wicket, and making good ground to his left, Lewis dived to take a brilliant catch at full stretch. Lewis’ team-mates weren’t slow to show their appreciation!

Distance is clearly no object to Harry Murphy when it comes to helping his old club in its hour of need. With players thin on the ground for Selkirk’s match against Boroughmuir at Meggetland on Saturday, the Aberdeen-based school teacher let skipper Dan Heard know he’d be more than happy to travel down for the match. Despite the final result, it proved a worthwhile trip, with Harry making a significant contribution for the visitors, finishing as Selkirk’s second top scorer with 27 runs. Many thanks, Harry, and ‘haste ye back’!

Although Selkirk didn’t manage a win over Boroughmuir at Meggetland on Saturday, the players all put in a decent shift. None more so than team manager and former captain Kenny Paterson. At the age of 56, and nursing a painful Achilles injury, Kenny still made himself available for selection, and turned in another five-star performance. Selkirk’s top scorer on the day with 38 runs, he is setting a fine example to the younger players. Nice work, Kenny!
