“It’s something I’ve always wanted to work towards,” said Daniel, “so I’m really pleased at being given this opportunity.”
The 30-year-old will be well supported by new vice-captains Rory Banks and Greg Fenton, each of whom has skippered Selkirk in the past. Kenny Paterson is again team manager.

Daniel began his cricket career playing for the Selkirk Colts XI. However, after being diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 16, he was unable to take part in any sporting activity for a four -year period. Since being given the all-clear, he has been an ever-present in the Philiphaugh side.
Last season Selkirk finished mid-table in East League Division 3, and Daniel is looking towards building on the work of his predecessor as captain, Michael Fenton.
“Hopefully all the boys will get stuck in again,” added Daniel, “and we’ll see how far that takes us in the new campaign.“
“We’ve plenty of experienced players in the side, plus some talented up-and-coming youngsters, so the signs are encouraging.”
Members attending Friday’s AGM paid special tribute to two of the club’s most dedicated and hard-working individuals – president Roger Arnold (who doubles up as the club’s treasurer) and club secretary Neil Gentleman.

Both men are stepping down from these posts, but have agreed to continue in the roles of property & field convener and junior cricket convener respectively.
Alison Scott will take over as the club’s new treasurer, Drew Dickson was appointed membership secretary, Rory Banks becomes match secretary, while John Smail returns as sponsorship convener.
Joyce Wright and Gary Haldane agreed to continue as committee members, while Ann Fernie, Trish Banks, Michael Jaffray, Chris Highton and Adrian Kentleton were all appointed to the new committee.
The East of Scotland League fixtures for 2025 are expected to be published on March 3.
