Sunday loss for Selkirk

Selkirk find themselves in the bottom half of Division 3 going in to the final two games of the league season after a low scoring loss at Royal High Corstorphine on Sunday.

Selkirk captain Michael Fenton pictured with ex-player Steve McLaren, who kindly sponsored the match ball for the Souters’ ESC Division 3 game against RHC 3 at Barnton on August 11.

Selkirk won the toss and elected to bat. Unfortunately wickets were quick to fall and the souters were ultimately all out in the 32nd over having only reached 78 runs. The openers Greg Fenton (10) and David Gardiner (26) were the only visiting batters to reach double figures. The wickets were never far apart and the highest partnership in the Selkirk innings was 21 runs shared between Gardiner and veteran Kenny Paterson.

After tea Captain Michael Fenton opened the bowling but replaced himself quickly and Selkirk almost made a match of it with their hosts 40 for 6 in the 19th over. Gardiner (3-8) and Greg Fenton (3-14) also top performed with the ball, grabbing three wickets each. However, Hilal Sahil (21*) and Tehmoor Ahmed (19*) took their time and saw the Edinburgh team home with overs and wickets to spare.

The penultimate game of the league season sees Westquarter and Redding CC visiting Philiphaugh next Saturday and the souters will hope to bounce back with a home win to reclaim an overall winning record.
