Junior Cricket 2024

Some of you will know that following some indoor training in January and February we took part in indoor matches against Kelso and St Boswells over the past few weeks as a warm up for this season. The players did well to get victories against both teams and competed well in all matches.

The 2024 season kicks off in earnest after the Easter break with hard ball training for Juniors after school on a Thursday and a girls only group after school on a Monday.

We will be delivering the All Stars and Dynamos programmes again this year – which introductory soft ball programmes for 5-8 year olds and 8-11 year olds respectively. You don’t need to have any cricket experience – our goal if for you to have fun and learn skills. We plan to start these in May and the opportunity to sign up will be coming out soon.

So – some specific dates to note:

Kit day – 14th April 12pm-2pm

(This date is for those who have ordered kit for this year – we will be able to make additional orders for new players. Our junior kit will be sponsored by Allied Surveyors this year and we are also grateful to Eck, Jean and Fraser Heard for their generous donation to Junior Cricket at Selkirk CC.)

Junior Hard Ball – Thursday after school (@4pm-5.30pm) – starts 18th April

We do not have set dates yet but know for sure that St Boswells, Kelso and Gala will all be looking for home and away fixtures.

Girls Only Sessions (for P4-P7) – Mondays after school (4-5pm) – Selkirk High School games Hall – Starting 22nd April

As stated above – these sessions are all about fun with a focus on developing the fundamental skills to play cricket. You don’t need to have any cricket experience – bring a friend and come along and enjoy a new/different sport.

Finally, our primary Schools Festival is planned for the end of May and we are working hard with the high school to try and get a date in the diary for an Inter House competition.

Volunteers to help plan, deliver or support all of these sessions and events are always welcome – email secretary@selkirkcricketclub.co.uk

Community Warm Space

The club is open for all at this time and we are keen for you to come and use the space and our facilities for these times. For both, help yourself to drinks and snacks (all free!). You will have access to our underused coffee machine (we will provide a short demonstration, a choice of beans, and a grinder).

We will also provide other drinks and healthy snacks. With the right certification users can also access kitchen facilities.

On the Wednesday evening we have received funding for public broadcast of films. Through the ‘cinema for all‘ scheme we will book the screening of films chosen by those attending.

To ensure we had something to show on the first night we have already chosen a film suggested on the ‘cinema for all‘ website. We will be seeking ideas from those who come along for future screenings and will use Instagram and Facebook to let you know what’s coming up.
